The Girl, by Karen Lafferty
Karen Lafferty was a Jesus Music and contemporary worship singer/songwriter pioneer during the Jesus People Movement of the 1960s and 1970s. Typical of the many songs and lyrics that came out of the Jesus People Movement of that era, she wrote and sang simply because she loved Jesus, not for fame or fortune. Even to this day, many of her songs continue to inspire and to touch the heart.
For example, she wrote the song, Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God, which continues to be an inspiration today in addressing the issues in our lives that long for both freedom and security, and how every material thing that we need in life can be added by prioritizing the importance of seeking first His Kingdom.
“Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all of these (material) things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).
“Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
“Ask and it shall be given unto you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened unto you” (Matthew 7:7).
Hallelujah!
On this link, Karen Lafferty shares her testimony and how she came to write this song. Check it out here.
The song itself can be heard here.
I purchased Karen Lafferty’s album Bird in a Golden Sky back in the early 1970s. One of my favourite songs on that album is entitled, The Girl. She talks about a girl who outwardly looks like she has it all together among her friends, but inwardly, she is crying inside, and looking for a real man who can love her with a love that will last.
Let the song and its lyrics speak to your heart. You might want to pass this link along to somebody that you know whose contemporary life is well illustrated by The Girl

Roger and Marge Armbruster are bridge-builders and advocates of reconciliation and social justice between people groups and cultures. They both minister cross-culturally -- Marge by teaching English to new immigrants in rural southern Manitoba, and Roger by helping to build relationships between various indigenous groups who understand the connection that there is between people and land, with a special focus on the Inuit of Canada's North.
