The Canadian Inuit and the Greenlandic Inuit Connection

From February 12-23, 2012, some 40 indigenous believers from both the northern and the southern ends of the earth travelled to Jerusalem in a tour organized by Canada Awakening Ministries.  From the northern ends of the earth, there were Canadian and Greenlandic Inuit as well as Canadian First Nations.  You can read a full report on the Indigenous Tour to Israel here .

In both Jewish and Palestinian Schools, it amazed the audiences to know that people from Greenland knew about them, and loved them, because the Greenlanders had read about the Holy land in the Bible.  Their story was made all the more authentic by the wearing of their traditional dress, and the use of the Greenlandic Inuit drum (on the left of picture), which they used to glorify the God of Israel.

During a time of praise and worship on the boat, the anointing was increased with the accompaniment of both the Canadian and Greenlandic Inuit Drums.  The larger Canadian Inuit Drum is just above the smaller Greenlandic Inuit Drum near the front o\n the right side.

Back in November of 2010, a team organized by Canada Awakening Ministries went all the way up to the second most northern community in the world--Qanaaq, Greenland--along with some of the original relocatees with the High Arctic Relocation of 1953 from Grise Fiord (Larry and Annie Audlaluk) and Resolute Bay (Allie and Susan Salluviniq, and Louisa Gilespie), and also two representatives from Island Breeze Alberta in Vi Eli and Lima Nanai. 

It was our privilege to present to the church in Qanaaq, Greenland (pastored by Tukummeq and Arqiunguaq Qaerngaaq) an Inuit Drum to incorporate as a part of their indigenous worship services unto the God of heaven and earth.  You can see how that the congregation received it with much joy.

You will also see the evidence of how this drum is now being used in the Church in Greenland later on in this report.

On this map, looking along the west coast of Greenland, you can see Qanaaq up there just below 80 degrees latitude, and the next community on the map looking further south (about 1/2 way up the west coast of Greenland), is the community of Ilulissat.  Ilulissat is located approximately 200 km (120 mi) north of the Arctic Circle. With the population of 4,546 as of 2010, it is the third-largest settlement in Greenland, after Nuuk and Sisimiut.

Here is a panoramic view of Ilulissat.  The picturesque Ilulissat Icefjord has made Ilulissat one of Greenland's most popular tourist destinations, and tourism is now the town's principal industry.

In direct translation, Ilulissat is the Kalaallisut word "Icebergs".  The Ilulissat Icefjord is the birthing/calving grounds where icebergs are born.  On this picture is James T. Arreak, the pastor of the Iqaluit Christian Fellowship.  He was in Ilulissat during the first week of July, 2012, for a special Church Conference organized by the INO, which is the Inuunerup Nutaap Oqaluffia in Greenland.

This is the name for the Greenlandic Free Church, as opposed to the State Church, as new churches are rising up in Greenland which believe in the separation of the Church and the State in that they have very different roles to place, and belief is a personal heart issue that must be based on freedom of choice.  The INO believes that we become believers by choice, not by natural birth.

The evidence of icebergs in Ilulissat is immense.  However, there is evidence that the icebergs are smaller than they were in the 1970s and 1980s, although one has to remember that at least 2/3 of any ice berg is below the surface.  James Arreak was there, during the first week of July, however, to get below the surface of the presenting behaviour into the hearts of the people, and to see God's Presence do a softening, a melting and a healing at a very deep level.

One can now make connecting flights between Nunavut and Greenland with Air Greenland, making it easier for Canadian Inuit and Greenlandic Inuit to connect as circumpolar neighbors.

This is the Ilulissat Airport where James Arreak landed at the end of his journey from Iqaluit.

Speaking of his time at the INO Conference, James Arreak has reported, "It was incredible.  I could not believe what was coming out of me the moment I opened my mouth to the moment I finished.  It was obvious I was sent to Ilulisatt on a mission--on a mandate.  Life-giving words and messages, layered with revelations, and the prophetic poured out of me the whole time.
"The gospel was absolutely full.  I have never experienced this...The Greenlanders have a calling from God that is intense.  There is a work that is happening at a fast pace."

We talked earlier about the Canada Awakening Outreach to Qanaaq, Greenland, in November of 2010, where Tukummeq Qaerngaaqa is pastoring along with her husband Arqiunguaq.  Here, she is, as a part of the worship team at the INO Conference in Ilulisatt, and appears to be playing the very same Inuit Drum...

...that was presented to her church by the Canada Awakening Team that went to Qanaaq in November of 2012.  At least, that was when the Greenlandic Inuit Drum was introduced to the church in Qanaaq...

...and here one can see Tukummeq (with the red blouse on the far side of the platform) using the Greenlandic Inuit Drum as a part of the Worship Team in Ilulissat during the first week of July, 2012, giving back to God something that He had placed in her nation from ancient times with which to honour and to glorify Him.

Obviously, the worship ascended from earth to heaven, while the prophetic word of the Lord, and revelation knowledge flowed from heaven to earth.

The evidence of this is on a picture that John Nielsen took by the church during the Conference.  Often the connection between the heavenly and the earthly, the spiritual and the natural, is veiled from our eyes, but every so often, God gives us a little glimpse of heaven touching the earth. 

And so we continue to stand in faith, and to believe, that a mighty wind, a mighty wave, is coming from heaven, to raise up the Greenlandic Inuit Nation again!

Some of these remote communities in the far North are communities that God has "hidden" away, like hidden arrows in His quiver.  The Hebrew word for "North" is the word "tsaphon," meaning, "hidden, i.e., dark, used only of the north as an unknown quarter." 

So I believe that this scripture could well refer to northern islands and coastlands like Greenland in the circumpolar regions, as some of the arrows that He has "hidden in His quiver" that He is going to unleash on the earth.

"Listen, O coastlands, to Me, and take heed, you peoples from afar!  The Lord has called Me from the womb...and He has made My mouth like a sharp sword, in the shadow of His hand He has hidden me, and made me a polished shaft; in His quiver He has hidden me" (Isaiah 49:1, 2).
